- started as a pitcher. Later, he moved to first
- base. Like Hank Aaron, he was amazingly
- consistent. During one 13-year stretch, he
- averaged 45 home runs and won the home
- run title each year. His best home run season
- came in 1965, when he hit a record 55
- homers in JapanΓÇÖs 140-game season.

- Sadaharu hit more career home runs than
- Hank Aaron, but in 1974 and 1984, the two
- sluggers participated in home run hitting
- contests: Hank won both times. After
- retiring as a player, Sadaharu went on
- to manage the Yomiuri Giants.
